Fifth Third Contactless Debit Card

A contactless payment allows you to pay "touch-free" by tapping or hovering your card at checkout, rather than swiping the card or inserting it into a chip reader. It's a fast and convenient way to pay—just tap and go!

Contactless payments use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to complete transactions securely. An NFC antenna inside your card communicates wirelessly with the contactless-enabled card reader when you hold your card within 1-2 inches of the payment terminal.

Yes! Contactless payments are typically more secure than traditional magnetic stripe transactions. For each purchase, your contactless card transmits a unique one-time "digital" card number that encrypts your card information.

Your actual card number is never shared with the merchant, and you're protected by our Zero Liability program against unauthorized purchases.

You can tap to pay wherever you see the contactless symbol at checkout, or wherever Apple Pay® or Google Pay® is accepted. Look for the contactless symbolat:

• Grocery stores and pharmacies
• Fast food restaurants and coffee shops
• Gas stations and convenience stores
• Transit systems in many cities
• Millions of merchants worldwide

It's simple! Just hold your contactless card flat within 1-2 inches of the contactless symbol on the payment terminal. You don't need to physically tap—hovering works perfectly.

The transaction typically completes in just 1-2 seconds, and you'll hear a beep or see a confirmation on the screen.

Your Fifth Third contactless card is set up to not require your PIN for most tap-to-pay transactions. However, some merchants may still require a PIN or signature depending on their settings or the purchase amount.

If your tap isn't working, try these solutions:

• Make sure you're holding your card close enough (within 1-2 inches)
• Remove your card from your wallet if you have multiple contactless cards
• Check that the merchant's terminal has the contactless symbol
• If it still doesn't work, you can always insert your chip or swipe your card

The issue is usually with the card reader or the merchant may not have contactless enabled.

Your new card will typically arrive in 7-10 business days and includes all the same great benefits as our regular debit cards—plus the convenience of tap-to-pay.

Don't worry! Contactless terminals are designed to prevent duplicate charges. Even if you accidentally tap your card twice, you'll only be charged once. The system recognizes and blocks duplicate transactions automatically.
