Going Further Together
Fifth Third has made $44.7 million in direct investments into the neighborhood and catalyzed an additional $17.9 million in additional leverage in Avondale—located in Cincinnati, Ohio—for a total financial impact of nearly $63 million.
But we know that when we work together, we can achieve so much more. Our lead local community partner is the Avondale Community Development Corporation. And over the past year, the work of our partners has focused on helping develop pitch materials for a major funder, securing a program-related investment for Wesley Education Center and Fossett Village and hosting a stakeholder convening for organizations working in Avondale.
We have also been working to help close the digital divide and bring Avondale residents into the technology mainstream.
Supporting Resilience in Avondale
Russell Hairston is the executive director of the Avondale Community Development Corporation, our lead local community partner. He describes Avondale as “resilient” and “proud.”
“I think what the neighborhood program has helped us with tremendously has been focus, has been a work plan. You can no longer just look at the annual funding and hope that it takes you where you want to go because you are not in the control of the timeline of receiving those funds to implement you programming. A 3-5 year plan or program allows you to address all facets and I think gives you a golden opportunity to be successful.”
