Lockbox Services

Our lockbox remittance services use the combination of a US Postal Service post office box and a Fifth Third demand deposit account to provide your business with a secure and reliable destination to accept both paper and electronic payments.

Payment information is reported through Fifth Third Direct, our commercial online banking platform, and/or provided via direct file transmission to your Accounts Receivables system. There are three lockbox options at Fifth Third: Electronic Lockbox, Retail Lockbox and Wholesale Lockbox.

Key things to know

Depending on the lockbox service you use at Comerica, your lockbox service may be migrated to the comparable Fifth Third service. The timeline for the transition of each is noted below.

Electronic Lockbox

Transition

  • Your Electronic Lockbox service will continue uninterrupted as of September 8. Deposits will continue posting to your account.
  • You will continue to have access to the existing Electronic Lockbox online application, with no changes to functionality, but will log on through Fifth Third Direct.

History

  • Your Electronic Lockbox history will continue to be provided through the existing online application but accessed through Fifth Third Direct. Separate menu options will be used to access Electronic Lockbox and Retail Lockbox activity.
  • Your retention history selection from the Comerica service will be carried over for both your Retail Lockbox and Electronic lockbox transactions until that retention period expires.

Retail Lockbox

Transition

  • Your lockbox service will transition to Fifth Third’s retail lockbox solution on September 8.
  • A lockbox conversion specialist will work with you to coordinate the transition and ensure that file testing and verification is complete prior to September 8.
  • No changes to your SFTP connections or file formats will be required.

Remittance address

  • Your remittance address (PO Box) will change; mail will be forwarded to your new address for six months. Please note that mail forwarding may result in a one-day delay.
  • Update your statements and remittance coupons with the new remittance address and notify your payors of the change to minimize this delay.

Access

  • Access to your retail lockbox service is available through Fifth Third Direct using the Integrated Search module for check payment activity beginning September 8. If you have exception processing services, lockbox payment corrections and decisions are handled through Centralized Exceptions.
  • Your transaction history prior to September 8, will be carried over from the Comerica Retail Lockbox service until that retention period expires. You will access your historical transactions at Comerica through the Electronic Lockbox option available in Fifth Third Direct.

Training

  • With the assistance of your Lockbox Conversion Specialist, you will be onboarded as a new retail lockbox customer at Fifth Third and provided with Fifth Third Direct training to support your transition.

Wholesale Lockbox

Transition

  • Comerica’s Wholesale Lockbox service will be transitioned to Fifth Third’s Wholesale Lockbox solution in phases, after September 8.
  • Transitioning clients will receive prior notice and receive outreach from a Lockbox Conversion Specialist.

Lockbox sites

  • Comerica’s California lockbox site will close effective September 8.
  • Mail will be forwarded to Fifth Third’s Dallas processing site on or before September 8. Please note that mail forwarding may result in a one-day delay.
  • You do not need to make any changes to your PO Box address or box processing instructions as a result of the site closure. Your California PO Box will remain active until your box is migrated to the Fifth Third platform.
  • Payers needing to remit payment through an overnight delivery service will need to send payments to:

[Customer Name] [Lockbox #]
5201 East RL Thornton Dr.
MC 6550
Dallas, TX 75223

  • The Texas and Michigan lockbox sites remain open.
  • For customers using these sites, there are no changes to PO Box addresses or box processing instructions.

Data transmission

  • Lockboxes that receive data or image file transmissions will continue to operate without changes to file format or transmission method.

Reporting access

  • Access to lockbox detail reports will move to digital access via secure URL until box migration to Fifth Third’s wholesale lockbox service. Please see the setup instructions [link to setup instructions]
