Key things to know

Electronic Cash Letter (Image Cash Letter)

Service transition

  • Your Image Cash Letter service will transition to Fifth Third's Electronic Cash Letter (ECL) service on September 8, 2026. Electronic cash letter transmission and deposit processing will continue to operate similarly following the transition.
  • You will experience changes to reporting, adjustment monitoring, historical data retention, and research processes, which are outlined below.

Reporting

  • If you currently receive the Online Adjustment Report through Comerica Business Connect, your reporting experience will transition to ECL Operational Reports through Fifth Third Direct.
  • Historical adjustment data available through Comerica's Online Adjustment Report will not migrate to Fifth Third. You should download any data or historical information needed for audit, reconciliation, or record retention purposes prior to the transition.
  • Multiple report types will be available to support acknowledgement, detail and adjustment monitoring needs.
  • ECL Reports are found in the Fifth Third Direct Reports and Statements module.
  • Reports will have a different look and format.
  • Adjustment email alerts will be discontinued. You should establish processes to monitor Electronic Cash Letter reports or account activity reporting to identify and manage adjustment activity following the transition.

File handling

  • Electronic cash letter file processing and delivery will not change.
  • If subscribed, you will continue to receive notifications that Electronic Cash Letter files have been received by the bank; Fifth Third's acknowledgement email replaces Comerica's transmission alert and confirms file receipt and basic file totals.

Image Services

CD-ROM Delivery

  • Physical CD-ROM delivery of paid item images will be discontinued. Your final CD-ROM delivery will include paid item images posted between September 1, 2026 and September 4, 2026.
  • Paid item images posted after the transition will be accessible through Integrated Search in Fifth Third Direct.
  • Historical CD-ROM image data will not migrate to Fifth Third Direct. You should retain any CD-ROM data required for audit, operational, legal, or record retention purposes prior to the transition.
  • If you currently receive CD-ROM services, access to Integrated Search will be established as part of your transition to Fifth Third Direct, providing the ability to view, search, and retrieve paid item images with a seven-year retention period.

User access and entitlements

  • For Integrated Search, Fifth Third will provide initial access to designated system administrators.
  • System administrators will be responsible for granting access and entitlements to appropriate users within your organization

Paid items file delivery

Service transition

  • If you currently receive paid Item image files through file transmission services, your current service will not transition automatically to Fifth Third. You will need to select a future-state image access option prior to the transition.

Available options

Option 1: File Delivery

  • Continue receiving paid item image files from Fifth Third. File delivery frequency options include daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual delivery. Setup, file format conversion and testing may be required prior to the transition.

Option 2: Integrated Search

  • Transition to a digital image access model through Integrated Search in Fifth Third Direct. Images can be viewed and downloaded directly through Fifth Third Direct, eliminating the need for file delivery and file ingestion processes.

Actions you may need to take

  • Review the available image access options and determine which solution best aligns with your operational needs.
  • If you choose file delivery, additional setup, format validation and testing may be required prior to the transition.
  • If you choose Integrated Search, user provisioning and access setup through Fifth Third Direct may be required prior to the transition.
  • Contact your relationship team if you need assistance determining the appropriate solution for your organization.

Returned Items

Returned item history and access

  • Online Returned item reporting will transition from Comerica’s Treasury Information Reporting (TIR) Returned Items Statements to Returns Management within Fifth Third Direct.
  • Due to transition activities, returned item details will not be visible within Returns Management on September 8, 2026. This is an expected part of the transition process and does not indicate a service issue. Returned item activity processed through Fifth Third systems during conversion weekend is expected to be available within Returns Management on September 9, 2026
  • A limited number of returned items posted on September 4, 2026, may be reflected in account activity and online banking channels but will not be available within Returns Management. Customers requiring additional details or images for these items may contact customer support for assistance.
  • Six months of returned item history will be available through Returns Management following the transition. Historical returned item data from TIR Returned Items Statements will not migrate to Fifth Third.
  • You should download or retain any historical return item data needed for audit, compliance, dispute resolution, reconciliation, or record retention purposes prior to the transition.

  • System administrators will be responsible for granting access and entitlements to appropriate users within their organization and should review user access during the preview period to ensure proper configuration.

Notifications and monitoring

  • Manual phone notifications used for returned item disposition and notification workflows will be discontinued.
  • Returned item monitoring will transition to a more automated and self-service experience using email alerts, fax notifications and visibility through Fifth Third Direct.
  • Returned item email alerts will continue to be available after the transition, but notification formats and delivery methods may look different than they do today.

Service continuity

  • Fifth Third will continue to support representment, fax delivery, extra advices and existing special instructions where applicable, helping maintain continuity in the handling of returned items.

Bank by Mail

Service transition

  • Comerica's centralized Bank by Mail deposit service will be discontinued as part of the transition to Fifth Third.
  • Deposits should no longer be mailed to the Comerica Bank by Mail processing center following the transition.
  • Customers currently using Bank by Mail should work with their relationship team to identify an alternative deposit solution, such as branch deposits, Electronic Deposit Management (EDM) or other available treasury management services.

Actions needed

  • Review the new Electronic Cash Letter reporting formats and reconciliation processes.
  • Familiarize yourself with Integrated Search for image research and retrieval.
  • Download or retain any historical data needed for audit, compliance, reconciliation, or record retention purposes prior to the transition.
  • Review returned item monitoring processes and confirm appropriate notification methods are in place following the transition.
  • If you use Bank by Mail services, identify and implement an alternative deposit process before the transition.
