Fifth Third General Counsel Elected Chairman of Ohio Bankers League
Paul Reynolds, executive vice president, secretary and general counsel of Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB) has been elected 2009 chairman of the Ohio Bankers League (OBL).
"It's an honor to be elected to this position with such a prestigious organization," said Reynolds. "The OBL has long been at the forefront of the financial services industry in Ohio and carries a reputation of creating solutions for the benefit of Ohio commerce. I look forward to working with this group of banking leaders through one of the most turbulent times in our industry."
As chairman for 2009, Reynolds will lead a 26-member board comprised of banking industry leaders from throughout the state and elected by OBL member financial institutions. The OBL Board is the governing body of the association. As such, it plays a critical role in setting the organization's agenda as well as establishing legislative and regulatory priorities for the banking industry.
"Banks have a lot of competitors, not only one another, but a legion of less regulated or unregulated financial service providers," commented OBL President and CEO Mike Van Buskirk. "While the Ohio banking industry is known for its competitiveness, it also has been nationally recognized for working together when common problems are best solved by cooperative action." Van Buskirk added that Reynolds is well-known in the banking industry and has been very active in the Cincinnati community and will offer that same commitment to the community statewide as he takes the reins as OBL Chairman.
Reynolds brings 24 years of banking experience to the position, having started his career at Fifth Third Bank in 1990 as vice president of the Bank's legal department. He was named senior vice president, general counsel and assistant secretary in 1997, and was appointed executive vice president in 1999. Before joining Fifth Third Bank, Reynolds served as an associate attorney at Graydon, Head & Ritchey.
Reynolds has a bachelor's degree in business management from Northern Kentucky University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky. He also is former chairman of the board of trustees of the Art Academy of Cincinnati, a board member of the Southwest Ohio Workforce Investment Board and a former ambassador committee member of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
